News: Events
March hit and we’re finally seeing some decent temps around the country. Bringing with it an increase to OCR events.
Savage Race had their first two in March. Introducing a new obstacle called the Bruiser which appears just to be tyrolene traverse with some extra metal posts to hold the rope up. But, as Savage does, they also pushed some challenging rigs at the end. Really putting your obstacle bands to the test. And we’re here for it.
Numbers are looking okay for Savage compared to the prior year. Florida saw a decent increase in finishers with Georgia only slightly falling behind.

Spartan Race pushed some more racing out this month and we see the first Spartan Ultra of the year in San Jose. A new venue looking flat and fast but coming along with some thick mud and long barbed wire crawls to slow things down.
But did Spartan make it hard enough? Let’s hope we’re not seeing watered down courses. Because the top 4 guys finishing the competitive Ultra are in the low 5:20’s with the winner at 5:19. Quicker than any 1st place finisher at any U.S. Ultra last year. (The quickest being Brian Beal with 5:25 at the South Carolina Ultra.)
Additionally, we’re still looking at number of finishers. It’s… just okay. Spartan is offering more event options this year. Such as more Ultra’s, more Trifectas and extra Sprints added here and there over the weekend. Without these extra events, it does look like participation would be down.
The one worry we do have is on the decrease in competition across the board. Spartan is seeing big decreases in the number of people running competitively.
We’re going to make a separate post here soon to go into some details. Stay tuned.
And Lastly. Rugged Maniac went under in February, followed up by BattleFrog calling it quits in March. OCR events are just FALLING TF apart to start off this year.
Will there be more?!?! What do you think?
But ya know what? Even if the whole OCR crashes and burns, I’ll still buy myself VJ’s for my trail running. Click below for to look at SHOES.
News: Athletes
In March we learned that the power couple of Lindsay Webster & Ryan Atkins are expecting this summer. Congrats to them and perhaps Lindsey is finally taking retirement seriously.
Veejay Jones was so excited by the news. He wanted to go and make his own baby. Carefully packing together a mini snow ball baby and feeding it more and more and more. Growing that baby snowball into a legit giant. IMPRESSIVE.

News: Coming up
The first heavyweight Spartan Ultra is coming up in April. The iconic and challenging venue of Vernon New Jersey. Lots of us on the East Coast are getting excited.
Are we missing anything?
April is feeling light.
