OCR News for May 2024

What the Hell Happened in OCR this Month?!?! May 2024 edition

NEWS: EVENTS

The main Event of May was Spartan’s 2nd race of their National Series in Big Bear California. And this is where Hawk Call comes into play.

Back in April we saw Hawk taking to the streets of Salt Lake City, Utah for their half marathon.

And like a Hawk swooping in for his prey, he flew through this course at a blistering pace and won the event at 1 hour 6 minutes.

So when rumors that he was showing up to the Spartan National Series in Big Bear, he quickly became a crowd favorite for the win. And as we expected, this rugged OCR course was no match for his tenacity and skill. Hawk ran this entire course even as the grades crept up to 40% at times. Even missing the Spear and running the long penalty lap gave no chance for a contender to catch-up to him. He left the competition in his dust and secured a first-place victory.

While his dominance was undeniable, there was a tinge of disappointment that some of the prior year winners didn’t show up. But still, some solid athletes were chasing and his performance was clearly nothing short of awe-inspiring.

Hawk Call is clearly soaring high this year and we can’t wait to see him back on course.

NEWS: ATHLETES

Athletes Austin Azar and Trevor Cichosz are well known players at the 24-hour Wolrd’s Toughest Mudder. But apparently 24-hours just isn’t cutting it for them these days.

They went out and did what’s being called the most grueling and unimaginable ultra-race ever created on the planet. The Everest 135 Mile Extreme Race.
It’s not only 135 miles.
But they also get up to 18,100 ft in altitude.
And hit 45,600 ft in elevation gain.

Austin & Trevor accomplished this massive feat, coming in to finish at 110 hours.

If you’ve been looking for an OCR training program, it looks like Leon Kofoed and Ida Mathilde joined up. Bringing out an 8-week course this month. The two say it blends structure with flexibility, allowing personal adjustments to fit your fitness levels and goals. And will cover all the essentials. Endurance, Strength, Grip and Training Tips & Tricks.

NEWS: COMING UP

June looks to be a light month on the series events side. But for all other OCR racing, we’re in full swing.

We’ll be seeing several big Spartan Ultra’s this month at: CINCINNATI, COLORADO and MONT-TREMBLANT CANADA. Savage CHARLOTTE and OHIO for the East Coast racers. And Tough Mudder TWIN CITIES & MICHIGAN for the Mid-West racers.

Beyond June, we’ll be seeing the third and final Spartan National Series race in July. Where we’re going to the mountains again and adding distance.

This July 20th, Athletes will head to Huntsville, Utah where they’ll hit an altitude of up to 8,300 ft. over the Beast / 21k National Series race.
